My Personal Cheerleader

Happy Earth Day!  It is truly a beautiful morning in the PNW and we just had to get out and enjoy it!

Since this may be the last sun we get for several days Sky and I headed out for a run.  It had been almost a week since my last run and I was so ready to get out and stretch my legs!  I needed the break though.  I now feel ready to run, ready for the next few races, and ready for the next training cycle to start!  All the inspiration from Boston yesterday helped as well!

Snacks, sunglasses, books, Daisy Duck…Sky is ready for a run!

It’s been a long, long time since I ran with Sky on our own.  The Stroller Group runs are always a pretty easy pace (that doesn’t mean they feel easy though), but when it’s just the two of us I like to push the pace.  I figure if I can get within 20 to 30 seconds of race pace while pushing the stroller then race day will feel super easy.

It felt hard, I haven’t put effort into a sub 10 with the stroller in a long time, but I did it.  Average was 9:32 (or close to it, I forget exactly).  That’s pretty decent.  I noticed it felt way harder after this last training cycle than it felt back before Whidbey.  But that was months ago and I know Sky has grown since then, it’s just going to keep getting harder and harder the bigger she gets.

She loves the reverse camera option on my phone!

Thankfully Sky is the best cheerleader ever!  She’s usually pretty quiet in the stroller, but today she wanted the the sun shade and screen left open and she was yelling her head off.

All I heard the whole 3 miles:
“Faster mommy, faster”
“Come on Mommy you can do it”
“Bump, be careful, don’t hurt me”
“Watch where you’re going”
“Don’t hurt yourself”
…and the best part was when I hit the one short yet steep hill “Go mommy, go, you can do it”, and as soon as we got to the top, “Mommy you did it, good job”!

Every time she told me to go faster I let her know I was already going as fast as I could and her response every single time was “No!  You go faster”.  Seriously better than any running coach!

After that it was time to play and let Sky run around the soccer field.  I offered to drive down to the playground, but she said no.  She really just wanted to run around the fields.

Loves the breeze on her face!

Reading the Cherry Tree sign to herself.  This picture doesn’t even come close to showing off the pink and white dogwood trees.  So pretty!

You can see Sky in the upper left of the pic, the white smudge between the two trees.  We were the only ones on the soccer fields and she loves seeing how far she can get from me before I run after her.

I was feeling kinda blah/irritated this morning, no reason really, couldn’t put my finger on it.  Figured a run in the sun would fix it, and I did feel better.  But, the tipping point was the labyrinth.  Just being calm, following a path that’s already there, and not having to think about anything calmed my heart and cleared my mind.
Lovely way to start the day and get myself back on track.  Looking forward to whatever the rest of the day brings!
Who watched the Boston coverage yesterday?
It’s why I didn’t post yesterday, all I did really was watch the marathon coverage and track my friends who were running, and that makes for a boring ass blog post!  BTW – Amy finished and beat her time from last year!
How do you reset your mind/attitude when you need an adjustment?

Aside from running I also like a glass of wine and my book, even for just 20 minutes.  Always makes me feel better.

Twisted Hair and Stuff

Anyone else hate growing their hair out?!  Yep, me too.  Thankfully my hair grows pretty fast, but still there is a stage in every grow-out attempt, sometimes more than one stage, that you just can’t do a thing with it.  Going from pixi’ish short to angled, just below the ears, bob = frustration!

I’m fine with where it’s at right now though, because I know the end result is going to be amazing!!!  But, it also means there is long hair in my eyes that I can’t stand.  The result is a lot of this…

…not making this pic big because my forehead is already ginormous enough!  I either pin it, twist it, clip it, or braid it back out of my face almost every day.  For special, I need/want to look nice, occasions I will leave it down for a tussled in my eyes look, but I can only handle that for a few hours.

Sky was super thrilled about the stroller run today…I was super thrilled about the fog.  I actually kind of like the fog, but it made for extra cautious street crossings with the strollers.

Her biggest issue I think is that I’m running and she isn’t.  She finished her snack super fast, before the run even started so I kept hearing “I want out”, “I run, run”.  I just can’t slow the group down that much.  I may have to start letting her out on the last home stretch back to the store though.  She just isn’t happy if she isn’t running.

I had an awesome run with the Tuesday Night group last night!  I must be getting faster because I wasn’t the last one this time!  When I left the house it was sunny and nice, but Tacoma was full of fog.  I didn’t bring my headlamp, so I ran my a$$ off to keep up with the group.  It helped that there were a few people behind me, and I could hear them talking.  So I pushed to stay ahead of them.  I just didn’t want to get left alone in the dark and fog….it’s not that it’s not safe, but it isn’t safe.  If that makes sense.

Mile 1 – 9:22
Mile 2 – 9:36
Mile 3 – 8:50 – Felt like I was hauling a$$, turns out I was, for me anyway.

Next week is a beer run, and I’m so excited.  Not sure how drinking beer and running is going to work for me, but I’m going to give it my best attempt!

It’s driving me crazy not to have a half on the calendar until April.  I miss it!!!  Miss the training, miss the distance, miss the discipline.  I think I’m addicted to 13.1.  Tempted to sign up for every 5K and 10K I can find between now and then just so I have some races to look forward to.

Funny yet annoying new thing Sky is doing.  She is all of a sudden very, very opinionated about which direction I’m driving.  If I turn right and she wanted to go left it’s screaming, crying and yelling “no go this way”.  Every time we go anywhere she gets upset about how I’m getting us there.  Fun times I tell you.

Please tell me your toddler is doing something funny and/or annoying as well!

What races are people doing?  I’m really needing to find some fun ones to run!

Anyone done a beer run?

Girls Day!

When Mark’s away the girls will play!  Actually the day started with a few errands and house cleaning.  But after nap time it was on!

The sun was out and we both needed to get out and enjoy it.  I got an awesome, AWESOME stroller run in with Sky (more on that later…totally solidified my goals for next year today!), and then it was play time at the park.

Swinging is still her favorite thing!
Trying to figure out the cargo net.
Playground version of toddler containment.  She got in there and couldn’t figure out all she had to do was duck under it to get out.

We came home and had our favorite “Daddy’s gone on a trip” dinner…Papa Murphy’s pizza!  I totally had something read to cook, but we played at the park for so long that I was just too darn tired to cook it.

Sky was tired too and was ready for bed long before her normal bed time.  Which means an extra glass of wine for me!!!  Love sunny days full of productivity and fun!

I hope you’re all having a weekend full of fun and sun!

Another Craigslist Score!

First just let me express my love for Craigslist!!!  Thank goodness Craigslist exists because it’s really inconvenient that I’m feeling the need to majorly change things up in the house on a single income.

I guess after 9 years of looking at the sameness of the layout and major pieces of furniture I’m ready for something different.  Plus, losing the spare room to Sky (totally worth it!!!) eliminated a whole room of storage and we are approaching max capacity.  I can only consolidate/organize/find new hiding spots for so long!

It’s been a two part process.  I started out by taking almost all the art/pictures off the walls, shelves, mantel etc. and moved it around/into different rooms to create a more colorful, less bulky, more space efficient look.  Anything that I can’t find the perfect spot for goes to goodwill, unless it has special meaning, then I work harder to find it’s new home.  BTW – I’m shocked at how much stuff I take to goodwill every week.  I didn’t realize how much stuff we have that we don’t need/use!

One of the things I really wanted in the dinning room was a square table.  Since we were fitting a rectangle table into a smallish square room I felt like square would be better.  Since Mark pretty much owns craigslist (he has gotten so many good deals, including Sky’s free wooden swing set and slide!) as soon as I got serious about changing up the house he started looking for a square table and found the perfect one for a great price!!!

It looks perfect in the dinning room and fits so much better than the old table.  It gives us options too if we want to push it up against a wall we can fit a buffet in there, or move Sky’s school desk and white board in there for a more official pre-school space.  Bonus, it matches the wine rack perfectly.  Not too matchy matchy, but they look good together!

While we were taking the old table apart and putting the legs on the new one sky decided to start her own project.

She was working away on the gate with her screwdriver and yelling at us, “I working, I fix it”.  Any time we are working or fixing something around the house she gets her tools out and fixes things.

The second part of the project is to tackle the big pieces of furniture.  What to keep, what to ditch, what to move, and what to replace.  Things like replacing the couch and living room flooring will have to wait a while, like until I go back to work.  But, in the meantime we can update the curtains, throw pillows finish hanging all of our prints and keeping an eye on Craigslist.

Any cost effective decoration/organization/consolidation tips for me?

P.S. First post-race run today.  My legs are still sore and my knees hurt, but I’m going to give it a go with the Stroller Group.  Will see how it goes!

Sky Pics!

I know enough running talk already, but just a little bit more before I post some Sky pics.

Ran with the Stroller Group this morning and felt pretty darn amazing!  My legs felt good, the knee hurt a little until I warmed up then it was all good.  Finish the last mile walking to accommodate everyone, and that was probably perfect so as not to overdue it.  So looking forward to getting a run in this weekend!

Oh, speaking of pics you can now follow me on Instagram if you would like…you need an account though.  If you don’t want to bother most pics posted there will likely end up on the blog or my fb page anyway.  Here is the link if you are interested:

Ok, now for a few Sky pics…

Sharing with her bestie!

She LOVES when Bishop is paying attention to her, even if he wants her snack.

Mark’s socks look cute on her even with the crazy hair.  Sometimes a girl just has to run around like a wild child!
