The Quiet Times

The more busy life feels the more I embrace the quiet, even if it’s only a few moments of it.

I grew up in the library and reading all the time. I love books, and still crave the feeling of an actual book in my hands. But, I love my Kindle a lot. I can put 100’s of books on it, stick it my handbag and I’m always ready to read when I find myself waiting in lines, or with a random few minutes on my hands.
I had a list of To Do’s while Sky was in school yesterday and found myself done too early to go wait at the school, but too late to go home. So, I hit up the closest Starbucks and enjoyed a few chapters of my current book. It was noisy and crowded, but it made life feel still and quiet and I needed that during this busy week.
I love how much the 3 of them cuddle in the evenings. This is what movie time looks like, and it’s the calmest it gets with a 3 year old and a 1.5 year old dog. While I love bed time, I also look forward to after dinner when things calm down, and become quiet around the house. It’s my happy place. I’m usually doing the dishes and can peek in at them from the kitchen and it makes me smile.

How do you spend quiet time?

It Just Got Real!

I hope everyone had a great weekend!  I got a little caught up in life and just didn’t think to blog, since Thursday!

I finished a book, started a new one, and spent a ton of time playing with Sky and keeping her happy indoors while the weather was cruddy.   We were actually pretty busy, so I just skipped anything that involved firing up the laptop.

Anyway, today was a much needed break from the rain!

First Skirt Run Of the Season!  White legs!
You would think I forgot how to run in a skirt because it bugged the heck out of me the whole 10 miles.  I was tugging, pulling, stopping all the time to adjust…I’m a rookie.
So thankful we caught a break with the weather, and ran in the sun with only a few rain drops at the very end.
10 miles does mean that ice baths are back in my life.  Ice baths = that’s when running gets real folks!  I totally forgot how horrific the first 60 seconds are.  After that though you’re numb and don’t feel the cold anymore.  My knees and hips felt so much better after the bath and foam rolling.  I’ll trigger point in the morning, after things settle down a bit.
The only bummer is that my Garmin took a dump after the run.  This is the 5th or 6th time it has lost all the data.  By now I know how to do a factory reset, so we shall see how it works next run.  It 50% makes me want to replace it with one that’s better and 50% makes me not trust Garmin.  :-/
I was happy to hit 275 in my Energy Boost’s and they still feel brand new!  I am so happy with those shoes…seriously I’m over half way to when most people replace their shoes, and mine still feel pretty darn great!
A quick shout out to Elya, who is 10’ish (I think it’s a few more than that, but not sure how much more) weeks out from baby, and every week she is running a new post-baby personal best for our speedy run, and a new longest distance as well.  She is going to kick butt race day, I’m so excited for her!

We were going to end up being two miles short on the training plan this week, so opted for a Friday morning run with the kiddos.  We needed something easy after speed work and before long run!
Flying like birds.  Sky was so happy to have other kiddos to run after.
After that it was a Starbucks date for Sky and I, thanks to Michelle!  She sent me a gift card via Facebook!
Cake pop, coffee = we are both happy!

Obviously the coffee was mine and not her’s because she crashed as soon as we got in the car.  She doesn’t take naps in her bed, only in the car, if at all.  I don’t love this whole no nap thing, but I’m working with it.  The upside is she asks to go to bed at 7pm, so I can’t complain too much.
A last cute Sky pic from the weekend…this girl loves her dress up!
That is a big stuffed dog…thank you Grandma Val!  She was so happy to have her doggy and her “Princess Sophia” dress.
Ton’s of races this weekend!  I feel like running season has started, not that it ever totally ends, but there are so many races every weekend during the spring/summer and I love it!
Who ran or raced this weekend?  How did it go?
Tell me something fun you did this weekend!
Sky and I had multiple dance parties!

I Love My Little Runner!!!

I wasn’t going to run this morning, even though I needed .05 to hit my 10 mile goal for the week.  I figured it would be better to call it good enough, and live to run next week, than risk making this nasty cough/crap in my lung thing I have going on any worse.
Sky had other ideas though.  I thought we were going to the park to play at the playground, but she insisted on running!  While I didn’t track it, she ran from the car to the park, played for a bit, then looked at me and said, “I run, run”, and took off.  So, I know for a fact I got way more than the .05 I needed…probably closer to .5 or .6 by the time we finally got back to the car.
She even ran up one of the short but steep hills at Chambers, and when she got to the top she turned and looked at me at said, “I love running.”  I know I looked like a fool with a huge grin on my face and tears running down my cheeks.  That little girl has full control of my heart!  I love that she loves running with me so much, and I tend to enjoy this phase for however long it lasts.

After we ran and played and were frozen from head to toe I thought it would be fun to get hot coco and a scone to warm back up.  I was also trying to give Mark as much Sky free time as possible to work on the bathroom.  It’s just easier for him to work on painting etc. when she isn’t clamoring for his attention.
So we hit up Starbucks and enjoyed some coffee and coco.  It really was a pretty perfect morning!

The rest of the day is full of college football and finishing our Christmas shopping!
I hope you are enjoying your weekend as well!!!
Tell me something fun you’re doing this weekend!

Scones!

I may have created a monster by ordering Sky her first mini vanilla bean scone from Starbucks.  Every time we go in or drive-through all I hear is scones, scones, scones.

I think she was equally excited to be enjoying a scone as she was to finally get out of the house.  Thankfully her cold symptoms are much better so we were able to have our play date.

I’m a little sad that the turn in weather means Jodi and I can’t walk to Starbucks, but I have to say listening to Reagan and Sky sing and talk in the car makes driving so worth it!

Any Monday that includes Starbucks and a play date with Reagan, Jodi and Harrison is automatically a great Monday!
