Just Keep Moving!

If you can’t run walk!  A good rule of thumb in a race and life in general.

Rather than get frustrated that I didn’t feel good enough to run I hit Michelle up for a walk instead. I’m not going to lie I was a bit pessimistic about it.  It’s hard to know what the weather is going to do from hour to hour the last few days, and while I don’t mind running in wind and rain, I hate walking in it.  When I saw dark clouds on the horizon I almost messaged her to cancel.  But, I’m glad I didn’t.

I would have missed out on this beautiful sunset, and on good conversation with my friend!  It amazing how much easier it is to have a full conversation when walking rather than running!  We got a few drops of rain, but nothing too bad, and totally worth it for the view!

On the upside of not running…I’m really working on cross training and drinking tons of water. Trying to get good habits in place so that when running does start back up I’ll be well rounded and not just running all the time!

Sky and I started our day with coffee (for me) and chocolate almond milk (for her), it’s one of her favorite things!  I love sitting and eating breakfast with her…the conversation is the best and she is full of hugs and cuddles.

     But that curly hair though!

I just had to share this one.  Sometimes the outtakes are so funny, and yes I’m fully aware that some day she will hate me for some of the pics on this blog!
I delete more pics than I save/share for sure!  It takes a lot to get a few ok to good ones.
I should totally do an outtakes only post and share the goofy/funny/embarrassing pics!  That could be entertaining.

No Fools Around Here

Can I just say this is my absolute least favorite day of the year, ok minus the fact it’s our friends daughters birthday…that is April 1st only redeeming quality.

I just don’t think there is anything funny or caring about playing jokes on people, and making them feel stupid.  That’s just my opinion, the majority of the world disagrees with me.  Thankfully no one targeted me today, so I wasn’t too irritated.

Instead of playing jokes on anyone Sky and I spent the morning at Frog n Kiwi.  She had a nasty cough for  weeks, and while I don’t feel like she was sick that whole time, other parents don’t know that.  Out of respect for others I keep her home from public play places/classes when she’s like that.

The only problem was she asked to go to Frog n Kiwi every day for over a month.  It was getting ugly the longer I had to keep telling her no.  So, even though it’s spring break I braved it and took her to play, and for the first 45 min it was just Sky and one other tot.  Perfection!  It actually wasn’t all that busy thankfully.  She had a blast!

How cool are my nails?!

Once we got home Sky was happy doing her own thing/enjoying a snack (she was tired!) and I got to read for a bit.  I have a hard time fitting in even 30 minutes to read my books, and I happen to be in middle of a really good one.  It was really nice to have a few moments to myself to kick up my feet and read a few pages.

It got even better when I got an evening run in!  I am so excited that the training schedule once again allows me to make it to run group.  I miss the Tuesday night group when I can’t be there.  When I’m in the midst of the double digit long run weeks I just can’t swing Tuesday night and then Wednesday morning with the stroller group.  My legs are getting closer and closer (as in my last year of being in my 30’s starts in 2 days!) to 40 and getting tired easier.  I had to skip the run group the last several weeks, and it was so nice to rejoin them tonight for a lovely sunny evening run!

In fact it was such a nice evening that I took a little detour on the way home because the beautiful colors in the evening sky were calling to me!

Not the view from our house.  I found a great spot in Steilacoom to get a pic of the sunset.
I love living in the PNW!  Look one way and it’s the Puget Sound…look the other way and it’s Mt. Rainier.  Tons of green, lot’s of trees, mild winters, pretty great summers, and very few (if any) poisonous spiders/snakes.  Not bad at all!

Tell me…Group running or solo running?
I like a little of both!
Thoughts on April Fools Day?

Sunny in the PNW!

P.S. Sometimes the P.S. has to come first!  I added a new tab under the header: Race Bucket List!  Go check it out and let me know what races I’m missing!  I decided I needed a place to keep track of races I want to do rather than doing a post a year about it and then forgetting.

No snow here.  I don’t think there are very many times anyone can be envious of the weather we have in the PNW, but given the winter storms and snow/cold parts of the country are getting…this is the place to be right now!  Ok, maybe SoCal has us beat, but still it’s pretty darn nice here right now in comparison to winter storms and snow!

Perfect running weather!

Normally I run with the Fleet Feet run group Tuesday nights, but given the sun and the pretty pink in the sky I opted to run with the babe and baby in daylight.  That is Mt. Rainier over my shoulder.  I LOVE that this park is within running distance from our front door and I can make routes between 3 to 10 miles depending on what I need.  We got in 3.96 miles with me pushing the stroller.  Such a hard leg workout for me pushing that thing on muddy trails and up hills (thank you to the babe for co-pushing the stroller up the last killer hill). Trail running is hard but trail running with a stroller is even harder!

I have said it before, but I’m so thankful that we have an amazing jogging stroller, and that I get to run with my two favorite people.  It’s pretty special to share what I love with my two first loves!  I’m one happy runner tonight…could be due to the good wine.  😉

In other running news I just finalized plans to run 5 Mile Drive Sat morning with Michelle.  I’m scared!  I haven’t run 5MD in a very long time, and have not run hills since the Run For A Soldier the end of Sep.  It’s been all flat and easy sailing for me since then.  It’s going to kick my butt, but I’m looking forward to the punishment!  I feel the need for a good hard hilly run!

Update – I mentioned yesterday that Sky’s toddler bed broke and we were getting a new one, well she LOVES it!!!

Thank you Tara and Les for hooking us up with a really nice free bed!

The sheets look red but they are really hot pink (there is pink in the comforter).  It took a ridiculous amount of time to pick out the bedding. Thank goodness Sky is a patient little girl because we wondered up and down the bedding isles at Target for way, way, way too long.  We didn’t want tons of pink and are planning on painting her room (why the heck did we think yellow was a good option in the first place?!) so got bedding in the hues we are considering for wall color.

I’m always a bit worried that big changes will cause nap and bed-time issues, but apparently we are lucky because Sky continues to be a great sleeper!  She is very proud of the big girl bed and new bedding.  She talks about it all the time and wants to hang out on her bed as much as possible.  And, of course she loves jumping on it.  It’s bigger and even bouncier than the old one.  That’s one of those things we just aren’t going to fight, she loves jumping and it makes her happy, so we let her go for it!

To those living and running in the winter storm path stay warm and stay safe!

What’s the weather like where you are?

Any races I need to add to my bucket list?

Waterfront Run!

The PNW can be rough to live in when the weathers rainy, cold, and gray, and when most of the running blogs I follow are in CA where there is always sun, shorts, and tanks.  Ok, maybe not always, but I tell you it really sucks to be running in the middle of winter in the cold, snow, and rain and see sunny CA pics.  Not picking on CA, apparently I just don’t follow blogs from anywhere else sunny.

Anyway, it’s all made up for with days like today!  When it’s sunny around here it is pretty amazingly beautiful!  And, the whole week is supposed to be just like today!  Mild temps with sun after the morning fog burns off.  (Although, of course the only day that has a.m. showers is stroller group day…whatever!).

Sine I was pushing Sky today I wanted to run somewhere flat, with a great view, and a playground!  My usual go to location is Chambers Bay.  I kind of wanted a break though because I walked there twice last week, and am doing so again tomorrow.  Plus, I wanted 5 miles today and the only way to do that at Chambers, without running the same out and back over and over, is to run the whole loop with the crazy hills.  That’s just not something I do with the stroller.  It’s too hard pushing up the hills and too easy to lose control coming down the hills.  So, we packed up and drove to the waterfront!  I try and limit the number of times I drive clear across two towns during the week, so the waterfront is a special treat!  The view was a special treat as well!

Totally worth the drive for this view!

Short of the 5 miles I wanted, but we hit the playground before I hit 5 miles.

I try not to brag too much around here, but can I just say I’m killing it with the pace on my stroller runs!  For the longest time 10:30 to 11:00 was fast for me when pushing the stroller, now I’m pretty consistently hitting an average of 9:45 or under with the stroller (when I run on my own, I don’t push the stroller group that fast).

Today I was proud of myself because I didn’t look at the watch once while running; I was focused on cadence and landing mid-foot, and feel like I did a pretty darn good job; and, there were a few times it started to feel hard and I was so tempted to stop and stroll with Sky and enjoy the sun, but I kept going and stayed focused.  I was so happy to see the pace that I didn’t even care that it was short of the 5 miles.

Plus, the smile on Sky’s face when I stopped at the playground (most of the time we don’t have time to stop and play so I run right on by playgrounds) made that last .5 totally worth skipping!

For some reason blogger won’t let me make all the pictures large, it picks and chooses, sorry you can’t see her face better.  She is smiling though!

She spent most of her time swinging and yelling “flying backwards” which comes out more like “f’ing bastards”.  So, it was good we were the only ones there!

Had to get a little climbing in!

I’m pretty lucky, because when it’s time to leave Sky rarely fights me on it.  I tell her it’s time to go, and we go with little to no fit 99% of the time!  Let me tell you though that 1% is pretty impressive when she does fight it!

It helps to tell her that she can run, run back to the car.  I parked about 1.5 miles from the park and didn’t think she’d make it all the way back on her own.

That hat is so silly, but she picked it our herself at REI and loves it.
“I push like mommy, no mommy help you”

Look at that stride!

She made it all the way back to the car with one pause to watch the train that went by.  She was so excited she was jumping up and down and twirling as it went past.  Girl loves her trains!

Love my little running partner so much!!!  I’m going to be really sad (probably mostly relieved though…she is getting heavy!) when the days of pushing her in the stroller are over.  We have a lot of fun together for sure!
