My Last Half Marathon!

Well it’s in the books guys, I ran my last half marathon, and I couldn’t have picked a better race, or had a better partner (wish Michelle could have been there as well, her and Elya and my main running squeezes, hope the back is better soon Michelle!).

Celebrating after finishing!

I don’t know what to say other than we laughed (a lot), I cried (a little), we had fun, I got irritated (why is there always a hill at the end?!), the sun was out, and the trails were pretty amazing. It seems fitting that my last half was also my very first trail half. I got to hang it up where my runner heart is happiest…out in the woods!

I mean the trails were beautiful!

Evergreen Trail Runs is a very well run organization, and their trail races are always special. The Tehaleh Trail Race is no exception. It’s tied into the local communities Harvest Festival so it was extra special with lot’s of food, and free activities for families waiting at the finish. Mark and Sky went up in a hot air balloon, visited vendors, played inside a hot air balloon blown up on it’s side, and after I finished there were carnival rides and activities for all of us to enjoy.

Blood = legit! So many sticker bushes…I was scratched up!

I can’t wait to run the 10K next year, and actually be able to enjoy the activities a bit more. I was pretty wrecked after this race, my knee hurt pretty bad, I had a head cold, and was just tired after close to 3 hours of running. My slowest half ever, but man we had fun, and some of those trails were very technical so I’m happy with it.

We are so goofy and have so much fun!

The whole time I kept thinking this is it, it’s my last half, and you know what…I’m 100% ok with that. So excited to focus on 10k’s, picking out fun races to do, work on pace etc. The best part is I can pretty much run 6 miles at an given time. I don’t need to train extra for it as far as working up to the distance. It’s not a distance that leaves me feeling wiped out after, I don’t need to worry about in-race fuel, or scheduling life around training and race day. It’s a huge relief mentally, and physically (especially for my bad knee) to focus on a more doable, yet still challenging, distance.

Free fun after the race!
Post race fun!

Halloween Outtakes

I hope everyone one had a Happy Halloween!  Sky had fun once we were trick or treating, but man getting here there happy, and us not frustrated with her was challenging!

Let’s just say that she was not always a nice Princess Sophia, and has gotten very opinionated about picture taking!

“No necklace…I don’t wan’t it”.  Never mind she picked it out  herself along with the matching tiara neither of which she wore.

“No picture, no take my picture”.  Although I do love that she went with cowgirl boots rather than princess shoes.  We left that choice up to her.  🙂

I was begging her to smile…to let us get one good picture and this is the look I got.  I’m actually a bit scared of the teenage Sky in our future.  😉

Finally!!!  I have no idea what changed…oh wait I think I started telling her she had better not smile.  “Don’t you do it, don’t you dare smile”…works pretty much ever time.

Apparently all the posing for pics wore her out because she came in cranky, ticked off at us, and didn’t want to talk to us.  She plopped down on the floor and next thing you know we hear snoring. Crazy loud snoring.  Thank goodness because that quick little nap was the only thing that got us through dinner and trick or treating without incident!

She loves trick or treating.  I don’t even think she realizes she’s actually getting candy either.  She just loves running from house to house and knocking on doors.  Most of the time she just opens the door and walks in…she’s still learning how it works.  After the first few houses she started telling us to wait for her further and further away from the door, “I do it by myself, you stay right here” and she would point to the exact spot she wanted me to stand.  She kept checking to make sure I was staying in my spot too.  So much sass in such a little body.

Thankfully when we were looping back towards the car to finish a few more houses she decided she was done, and was totally ok going home and going right to bed.  The best part is…Halloween candy makes great incentives for not having any accidents!  🙂

The best part of the entire weekend for me though….

Getting up early on a Sunday morning and going for a run with Michelle!  It has been so long since I’ve been able to do that, and even though it was slow, and it felt hard, and I was more sore after a 3 miler than I should be it still felt amazing!

There are still things from the accident that hurt, and will take time to work out, but I’m able to start slowly and carefully get back to “normal” activities and see how I tolerate them.  The chiro appointment the next day was a bit more brutal than usual, but it’s worth it.

Getting a Red Cup after my run was a nice treat/way to say I’m back.  Not the runner I used to be, but I’m back and I’ll get there!  We now have a standing Sunday morning running date set…feels so good to have a standing running date again!!!

Starbucks Red Cup….too soon or bring it on?
It’s a surprisingly hot topic.  Honestly a cup is a cup, coffee taste the same regardless.  And, I like Christmas decorations better than Thanksgiving…that doesn’t mean I’m skipping over Thanksgiving in any way.

It’s sort of funny to me to see people posting pics of their red cups and complaining about them at the same time.  If it really bothers them that much stop getting Starbucks until Dec 1st (or whenever they feel it’s appropriate red cup time).  It won’t change as long as they keep making $$.

First Run of Fall!

I just had to do it!  I had to get out there and enjoy the first full day of Fall with a run!  It was perfect weather, cool, but not cold and even got a bit of drizzle at the end to help cool off.  The only downer…my back is not super happy with me.  But it was worth it…I loved every second of it and smiled at every single person I passed, I was just so happy!  I’m beginning to think Oct will be a no running month.  I’m not totally willing to give in yet, but it’s looking like a break may be in order. Boo!

We spent the weekend making the most of the last few days of Summer!  We have had some beautiful weather for sure, and finished a big project!

Chamber Bay Golf Course, always a pretty place to walk!
Mark and Sky watching football together. She is all about the cuddles.
The weather was so nice Sunday we opened the door to the deck and watched football through the door, lounging in the sun.  Perfect if you ask me!
Another pic from Chambers Bay.  Sky rode her bike/walked for well over a mile, and was beat the rest of the day.
Saturday Sky and mark finished our new outdoor wine patio!  There are still some decorative things we are going to add, but the biggest, hardest part of the project is done and ready for us to enjoy some not too cool sunny fall days with some good wine and a toasty fire!  I’m working on a before/after post with step by step pics/directions.
I had a Jamberry party Saturday so Sky stepped up and helped Mark with the gravel.  She is an awesome little worker!
This is how Sky kills time while I’m getting adjusted at the chiro.  She likes a good workout!

My phone just could not handle the motion of the swing, but I just had to post because I love how much she loves swinging with Daddy!

How did you welcome in Fall today?
