Thankful Thursday

Today I’m thankful for someday.

My Dad and I have talked about someday seeing the Steelers play at home for years. Someday we’ll fly there, someday we’ll be in Pittsburgh on game day and know what that kind of energy in the city is like, someday…someday we will sit at Heinz Field for a game.

Well…someday is this weekend!

I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t excited for myself, because hello been a fan my entire life…of course I’m excited for myself! But, I’m mostly excited for my Dad.

He grew up watching his cousin, Ray “Ranger” Mansfield (center for the Steelers with two SB rings to prove it!) play for UW, then move into his NFL career and eventually end up with the Steelers, where he spent the majority of his career.

Dad saw his cousin hike the ball to TB hundreds of times, play in countless games, playoff games, and SB’s. He has a game ball (which I now have) and years and years worth of clippings from newspapers and magazines, and memorabilia all about Ray and/or the Steelers.

Steelers Football is in the Mansfield family blood! While I didn’t have the opportunity to meet Ray in person before he passed, he’s still this amazing, cool connection I have to the Steelers.

Dad has been waiting for 60+ years for someday, and it’s finally here! We fly in Saturday, go to the game Sunday, and fly home Monday.

I’m so darn thankful that he gets to see his Steelers play in person, at home, and I’m extra thankful that I get to tag along and share this experience with him! It’s going to be the best Father/Daughter trip ever!

Ray Mansfield’s jersey will be worn during a Pittsburgh game once again!

Here We Go Steelers, Here We Go!
