Thirsty Dash 5K

Last nights adventure found me running with two of my favorite runners, Elya and Michelle, for a trail 5K followed by beer at The Beach Tavern across from Titlow park in Tacoma.

This race was a Metro Parks Tacoma race and I have to say they do a good job. The price point of all their races is very low. Not a lot of bells and whistles, but I don’t mind. I don’t need another race shirt and have enough race bling. So bring on the $10 races! We did 3 loops around the park, my first repeat loop race, and while I don’t love the idea of repeating loops I actually liked this one. The only thing I will say is it’s not a 5K, not even close at 2.88 miles, and no significant hill to warrant the shorter distance, like a lot of trail runs do. I will totally do it again though, we had so much fun.

Seriously the most fun running I’ve had in a long while. Of course the promise of beer after, and it was taco night at The Beach, made it even better. It just felt good to get out there and run, but have fun with it, not worry about time or pace or anything.

Up the hill.

It reminded me that I need more trail running in my life, and I need to focus on running for joy, and not running for a finish line. Sign up for the race, but don’t worry about the results so much. Enjoy the journey…enjoy the miles that that take you to that finish line.

Thank you to Elya and Michelle for sharing their pics with me!

What finish lines are you crossing this weekend?

Cheers! Run first, beer later.

  1. I love these pics. I still hang onto my desire to trail run. It’s the job with the county that holds me back. I never get to heal from an injury before I get another. However, in March that all will change when I retire. Then , both Johanna and I will begin our pursuits of incorporating trail running into our fitness plans. In the mean time your pics help me to see my desire to trail run becoming real.
